Spring Break, it’s a time for every college student to pause the monotonous routine of school and travel to enjoy new and exciting cultures both at home and abroad. The Water Tower interviewed students at both ends of the karmic spectrum, bringing you a whiff of the spring break you can only dream of recreating for yourself next year.

Nashville, Tennessee Alternative Spring Break: 9 days, 10 co-eds

WT: Where are you?

Leader #1: Nashville, TN. We got here Sunday after 24 hours of driving.

WT: What are you up to?

Leader #1: We’re working at the Martha O’Bryan Center, a center that helps out the projects on the outskirts of Nashville. We tore down a wood playground that was unsafe. We worked with another team from Texas. They are ultra religious, sorority types, totally different than us.

Leader #2: There was this one girl from Texas who was all about the sledgehammer, she went nuts with it tearing down the play structure.

WT: How are the Nashvillians?

Leader#2: Everyone is unbelievably nice. We went to the YMCA and showered everyday. One weird catch is that you see a lot of confederate flags in all the stores.

WT: How do you spend the evenings?

Leader #2: We’ve mostly been trying to get to know each other better, playing charades and Scattergories…We went to watch the UVM basketball game at a pub in Nashville. They weren’t going to let us in because some people are under 21, but then we explained what we are doing here and not only did they let us in, they gave us free soda…We did some competitions. We tried to drink a gallon of milk in an hour. That didn’t go so well.
