Celebrity (noun) – Person whose fame and charisma allow others to look past shortcomings such as lack of experience and broad policy initiatives. Democratic presidential candidate
Barack Obama’s celebrity status has won him wide support, especially among young people, based solely on name recognition.
Netroots (noun) – Portmanteau of Internet and grassroots. Modern convention of gaining political support through flashy cute websites, and
Facebook and
Myspace profiles. Although Barack Obama has been noted for his effective use of netroots support to acquire small campaign donations, the effectiveness of the Internet in turning out votes is yet to be tested.
Vice President (noun) – Second to the president. Constitutionally dull position, most action seen during campaign season when used to “balance the ticket.” Attends dinners, smiles for the cameras (minus Cheney), waits for own turn to become president. Some pundits suggest that Obama would be best as VP candidate for Hillary Clinton, citing his relative inexperience, lagging poll numbers, and ticket-balancing ability.
