“I will be rooting for the Red Sox.”
-Presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani, in his most recent gaffe, declaring his support for the Red Sox last week. The comment caused a stir among many New Yorkers, who are aware of Giuliani’s longtime allegiance to the Yankees. Next flip-flop: “Go Al-Qaeda!”
“[We will] hunt down the people responsible.”
-Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger, commenting on the suspicious origins of some of last week’s wildfires. California was engulfed by raging wildfires last week, displacing more than a million people and destroying billions of dollars in property. Probable arsonist: Angry Britney Spears burns state during blackout.
“If you think that cameras aren’t watching you all the time, you are very naïve.”
-New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, after touring London’s extensive closed-circuit security camera system. Amidst opposition from privacy advocates, the mayor plans on installing a multi-million dollar system similar to London’s in New York. The cameras would diminish public privacy but increase security, asserts Bloomberg. Another step in the post-9/11 security-mania.
“Just look at what Osama, uh, Barack Obama, said just yesterday.”
-Republican candidate Mitt Romney, in a recent speech, decrying Barack Obama’s campagin calling all jihadists in Iraq to unite. Turns out that Romney’s speechwriters intended the comment to refer to Osama Bin Laden’s newest audiotape, calling on the various factions in Iraq to unite against America. Mistake? Yes. Embarrassing? You bet.
“You shouldn’t do anything that will undermine their [attorneys’] ability to represent you.”
-U.S. Magistrate Judge Alan Baverman, warning rapper T.I. not to do anything stupid upon his release from jail via a $3 million bail agreement. T.I. was arrested in Atlanta last week after sending an associate to buy automatic weapons and silencers. A former drug-related indictment prohibits the rapper from buying such weapons.
