To My Darling

Published February 12, 2008

Oh darling candy heart
You make love so simple
Which is why you must die
That, and you really don’t taste very good.

I will not be girly today
Even though those puffy, pink teddy bears
Are completely adorable
But who likes cute things anyway?
Communists, that’s who.

If I were to make
A portrait of your eyes
I would need a thousand shades of blue
For they remind me of the oceans
And the heavens above
And the sofa I saw
At a yard sale last week.
Won’t you be my heavenly,
underwater, spring-filled Valentine?
